A look ahead to Cardiff Fashion Week 2017
In 2016, we were told we had created an authentic fashion week. Of course, that is what we had planned but after a two year absence it was particularly important to provide an opportunity which had real value for the Welsh fashion industry. Our intention was to create a space where young designers, emerging designers and established designers could come together to showcase their collections, network and of course do business. The end result was a week which demonstrated the real wealth of talent we have here in Wales. While called ‘Cardiff’ fashion week, the event is indeed a platform for the whole of the country but using this fantastically creative capital city of ours as a window to the world. Reassuringly, the media have supported us in their numbers. The broadcast media, Welsh speaking channels, traditional dailies and lifestyle titles all featured Cardiff Fashion Week. The online community welcomed us too with bloggers and Instagrammers finding lots of reasons to talk fashion. With the backing of a number of supporters, sponsors and partners, we began to see what could be done with a fashion week in Wales for Wales. And that means we’re back with all cylinders firing for 2017. This year, the event will take place from 28 October - 4 November with a series of events (currently in the planning stage) gearing up for the finale which will be a number of catwalk shows and a fashion village in the curious and quirky space that is Cardiff Masonic Hall. We know we scratched the surface in 2016 and we expect 2017 to go up another level. What was achieved last year has given us an appetite for more. There’s some amazingly creative fashion minds here who deserve, want and need a route to market on their doorstep. Let Cardiff Fashion Week 2017 commence – we look forward to seeing you there.
